Photos from Biodiversity COP-3

Forests, indigenous and local communities, and a variety of other issues topped the COP-3 agenda. Below are a small* sampling of images from the fourth day at the meeting in Buenos Aires.

Pacific indigenous NGO Representatives of indigenous peoples in Asia (above left, on the left), Africa (above right) and the Pacific (left) were among those calling on COP-3 delegates to establish an open-ended working group on indigenous and local communities, to fulfill a pledge from COP-2 to fill a position on the Secretariat Staff on this issue, and to increase indigenous and local communities participation in CBD deliberations and implementation.

Latin America Forest Network Forests and biodiversity: The Philippines (above left) was one of several countries relating forests and indigenous knowledge during Thursday's discussion of forests. The Latin American Forest Network said (left, at left) said the CBD should be recognized as the only legal instrument to address forest biodiversity loss, as NGOs called for stronger action on this issue.
