Highlights for Friday, 14 March 2008

The fifth session of the Open-ended Ad Hoc Working Group of Legal and Technical Experts on Liability and Redress (WGLR 5) in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (hereafter, the Working Group) convened on Friday for its third day of negotiations in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

During the morning and afternoon, delegates convened in two sub-working groups. One sub-working group addressed settlement of claims, discussing civil procedures, a special tribunal and standing/right to bring claims. The other, on the primary compensation scheme, addressed standard of liability and channeling of liability.

During the afternoon, delegates met briefly in plenary and exchanged views on capacity-building measures.

The sub-working group on the primary compensation scheme discussed civil procedures, administrative procedures, a special tribunal and standing/right to bring claims.
