CRC-10POPRC-10The tenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC) to the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade opened Wednesday at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy. Co-Executive Secretary of the Rotterdam Convention, Clayton Campanhola, FAO, underlined the importance of the CRC's contribution to sustainable and productive agriculture, forestry and fisheries and Co-Executive Secretary Rolph Payet welcomed the opportunities to further strengthen the partnership between UNEP and FAO under the Rotterdam Convention and the CRC.

In the morning, the CRC discussed the draft decision guidance documents for methamidophos and fenthion (ultra low volume formulations at or above 640g active ingredient/L). The Committee also started their reviews of the notifications of final regulatory action for short-chained chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) and tributyltin, and established a contact group for SCCPs.

During lunch, participants attended a side event on the FAO revised international code of conduct on pesticide management.

In the afternoon, delegates established a contact group on tributylin and adopted a decision on coordination and collaboration with other scientific subsidiary bodies.

The contact groups on short-chained chlorinated paraffins and tributyltin convened in the late afternoon and delegates attended a reception in the evening.
