IISD Reporting Services - Stockholm Convention on POPs The twelfth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC-12) of the Stockholm Convention on POPs will be held from 19 to 23 September 2016 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy. POPRC-12 will follow the twelfth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention, which will be held from 14 to 16 September 2016 at the same venue.

During this meeting, the POPRC will undertake technical work including consideration of: a draft risk management evaluation on short-chained chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs); draft risk profiles on dicofol and pentadecafluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds; and further work related to the Committee’s past recommendations to the COP, including to list decabromodiphenyl ether (commercial mixture, c-decaBDE) in Annex A and unintentional releases of hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) in Annex C of the Stockholm Convention.

The POPRC will also consider: consolidated guidance on alternatives to perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and its related chemicals; the process for evaluation and review of brominated diphenyl ethers, pursuant to paragraph 2 of parts IV and V of Annex A to the Stockholm Convention; and a report on activities to support effective participation in the work of the Committee.
