POPRC-2 Highlights: Wednesday, 8 November 2006

On Wednesday, delegates discussed documents on three chemicals newly proposed for listing in the Convention's Annexes: octabromodiphenyl ether, pentachlorobenzene, and short-chained chlorinated paraffins. Chair Reiner Arndt (Germany) established contact groups to elaborate the draft proposals on these chemicals.

In the afternoon, Ecuador presented a format for submission of information on socioeconomic considerations, as specified in Annex F of the Convention. Canada and Uruguay made presentations on the processes of risk management at their respective national levels.

Delegates discussed components of the format for submission of Annex F information, and Chair Arndt established a contact group, chaired by Ecuador, to make changes and report to the Committee later in the week.
