Seventh Meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC7) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

Highlights for Tuesday, 11 October 2011
Sixth Meeting of the POPRC
POPRC-7 met in morning and afternoon plenary sessions on Tuesday and addressed several agenda items, including technical work relating to: brominated diphenyl ethers (BDEs), the assessment of alternatives to endosulfan, the assessment of alternatives to DDT, toxic interactions, and short-chained chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs). POPRC also addressed effective participation of parties in the Committee’s work.

In the evening, contact groups met on HBCD, HCBD and PCP. Friends of the Chair groups were scheduled to convene on alternatives to endosulfan and DDT, toxic interactions, and BDEs.

During the lunch session, the committee heard technical presentations. Martien Janssen (The Netherlands) spoke on “Top of the POPs: Prioritising potential POP candidates” and Mike Crookes (bre) reported on a case study on toxicological interactions of chlorinated paraffins.
