Seventh Meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC7) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

Highlights for Wednesday, 12 October 2011
Sixth Meeting of the POPRC

On Wednesday, POPRC-7 delegates met in morning and afternoon plenary sessions to consider several agenda items, including: debromination of brominated flame retardants, implications of the study on climate change and POPs, potential collaboration activities with the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention, alternatives to PFOS in open applications, and effective participation in the work of the Committee.

Delegates also discussed the output of the contact group reviewing the proposal to consider listing HCBD under the Convention. In addition, they considered the revised draft risk management evaluation on HBCD and a related decision recommending listing of HBCD in Annexes A, B and/or C of the Convention.

A contact group on chlorinated naphthalenes met in the morning, and a drafting group on PCP met over lunch. A contact group on POPs and climate change was scheduled to meet on Wednesday evening. Further work continued on Wednesday evening in: the drafting group on PCP, the Friends of the Chair group on BDEs, and in the Friends of the Chair group on alternatives to endosulfan and DDT.
