"A death sentence" for small islands |
||
Marshall Islands delegate Espen Ronneberg said that the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change report on Regional Impacts of Climate Change, distributed
to negotiators Friday,
represents a "death sentence" for his and other low lying island states.
Assessing vulnerability in 10 regions, the report says 9 of the
10 most vulnerable countries are island states, and "'profound' impacts
for the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati could be "disappearance in
the worst-case scenario."
