Developing Countries Meet the Press
G-77/CHINA leaders
Developing countries held a press conference to share views of the G-77 and China. Group members from the Philippines, Costa Rica, Tanzania, India, Samoa and Brazil joined to emphasize that developing countries are contributing to the negotiating process, not obstructing it.

Tanzania "We have our own political realities"
Tanzanian delegate Mark Mwandosya (left) said financing promised under the convention should not be used as bait to draw developing countries into emissions reductions. He said voluntary commitments are a thinly veiled attempt to do the same. Samoan Ambassador Tuiloma Slade (below left) said participation of developing countries in emissions reduction commitments is worthy of discussion some day in the future, but not before the Berlin Mandate requirement for strengthened developed country commitments is fulfilled. Franz Tattenbach Capra of Costa Rica (below right, at right) said developing countries can do more if given financing and technology. Responding to a question as to why developing countries refuse to respond to clear "political reality" in the US that demands they assume new commitments, Antonio La Viña of the Philippines (below right, at left)said, "We have our own political realities."

Non-non-groups
Negotiations carried on as much outside non-groups as within Wednesday, as in this huddle of Japanese delegates around Ambassador near the QELROs afternoon meeting.

Feliz Cumplean~os Make a wish
Secretariat staff surprised AGBM Chair Raúl Estrada-Oyuela with a birthday cake during Wednesday's non-group meeting as non-group Chair Luiz Gylvan Meira Filho looks on. Estrada declined to declare any quantified annual celebration objectives, instead adjourning the meeting and carrying the cake to his office for informal cake consultations.
