Highlights for Tuesday, 11 March 2014

L-R: COP 19 President Marcin Korolec, Poland; Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Minister of Environment, Peru;
and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres

Negotiations continued on Tuesday at the fourth meeting of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-4) under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In the morning, delegates convened for a workshop on domestic preparations for intended nationally determined contributions. In the afternoon, the technical experts meeting on renewable energy continued. Open-ended consultations on item 3 (implementation of all items related to Decision 1/CP.17, establishment of the ADP) addressed the issues of nationally determined contributions, and finance, technology and capacity building.

During the workshop a number of parties presented how their countries are preparing for the submission of nationally determined contributions and expressed views on how the contributions should be structured. The technical expert meeting on renewable energy focused on means of implementing actions, including finance, technology and capacity building, with panelists presenting national deployment of renewable energy.

The open-ended consultations on nationally determined contributions discussed accounting for national circumstances, and differences between the nationally determined contributions of developed and developing countries. In the open-ended consultations on finance, technology and capacity-building (means of implementation), parties considered how these issues could be reflected in the Paris outcome, building on what has been achieved so far.
