Geneva Climate Change Conference - February 2015

8-13 February 2015 | Geneva, Switzerland

Daily Web Coverage
Highlights from Sunday, 8 February 2015

ADP 2-6

On Sunday morning, the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhance Action (ADP) opening plenary took place. In the morning and afternoon, the ADP contact group on item 3 (implementation of all the elements of Decision 1/CP.17) convened.

In an opening statement, COP 20 President Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Peruvian Environment Minister, Peru, called on parties to maintain the momentum generated in Lima and work responsibly, efficiently and in a spirit of compromise. ADP Co-Chair Ahmed Djoghlaf, Algeria, called on delegates “to keep the promise made to our children in Durban.”

ADP Co-Chair Daniel Reifsnyder, US, underscored the objective of delivering a negotiating text on Friday and said the main task of the ADP contact group is to ensure that the text fully reflects parties’ positions. Parties agreed to the proposed organization of work, and convened in a contact group for the rest of the day.

The second meeting of the fourth session of the Structured Expert Dialogue (SED 4) on the 2013-2015 review – Part 3 – also convened. Participants heard from the Adaptation Committee, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, and the Climate Technology Centre and Network on their work relating to the adequacy of the long-term global goal to limit global warming below 2°C and the overall progress made so far towards achieving this goal.
