Espoo, Finland | 2 - 4 July 2003

Summary Report | Our summary report is available online in:

The workshop on synergies and cooperation with other conventions will convene from 2-4 July 2003 at the Meripuisto Hotel in Espoo, Finland. The workshop is organized by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is held in response to a request made to the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) by the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties (COP), held in November 2001, and a request made to the UNFCCC Secretariat by the seventeenth session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), held from October to November 2002. The SBI portion of the workshop will discuss synergies relating to food security, water resources and ecosystems between relevant international conventions. The outcomes of this discussion will be reported to the COP at its ninth session, to be held in December 2003. The objectives of the SBSTA portion of the workshop are to: prepare relevant guidance to the national focal points of the UNFCCC, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD); contribute to enhancing coordination and communication between the conventions; and identify options to increase cooperation and synergies in areas such as technology transfer, education and outreach, research and systematic observation, capacity building, reporting, and impacts and adaptation.
