Update: After considering agenda items, inter alia, on parties' proposals under Convention Article 17 (protocols), date and venue of future sessions, as well as election of officers, COP 16 closes at 6:24 am.

Update: 3:00 am. The COP/MOP closing plenary convened first and adopted a decision on the outcome of the work of the AWG-KP, with Bolivia expressing concern over the decision's substance and a lack of consensus to adopt it. The COP plenary then convened and adopted the Cancun Agreement, reflecting work done by the AWG-LCA under the Bali Action Plan. President Felipe Calderon, Mexico, then addressed delegates who greeted the outcome with a standing ovation.

Update: 4:45 am The COP/MOP closing plenary then reconvened and adopted a decision on the inclusion of carbon capture and storage under the CDM.

A summary and analysis of the conference will be posted on this site on Monday, 13 December 2010.

Update: AWG-LCA closing plenary convenes at 1 am.

Update: AWG-KP closing plenary convenes just after midnight.

Update: 11:05 pm: Many parties express support for adopting the proposed package without further negotiation. Bolivia raised concern, inter alia, with lack of guarantees over continuing the Kyoto Protocol and mitigation pledges leading to temperature increase of 4°C.

Update: The informal stocktaking plenary reconvenes at 9:30 pm.

Update: At around 6 pm on Friday evening, COP and COP/MOP President Patricia Espinosa convened an informal stocktaking plenary. She explained that consultations had continued since Thursday evening almost without a break. President Espinosa indicated that new texts have now been released reflecting parties' views and ongoing consultations. She emphasized that the texts were not "Mexican texts" and stressed commitment to keep the process transparent and inclusive. President Espinosa noted that parties would need to study the new texts and announced that the informal stocktaking plenary would reconvene at 8 pm, prior to closing plenaries of the AWG-KP and AWG-LCA. Delegates gave her a long standing ovation.
