Marrakech Climate Change Conference - November 2016

IISD Reporting Services - COP 22 - CMP 12 The Marrakech Climate Change Conference will convene from 7-18 November 2016, in Marrakech, Morocco, comprising the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the 12th Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 12), the 1st Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 1), the 45th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 45) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 45), and the second meeting of the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA 1-2).

Over 200 hundred side events are scheduled to take place during the two weeks of the Conference. Side events are an excellent opportunity for a wide range of organizations, from governments and international organizations, to civil society and private sector organizations, to highlight an array of important climate change issues at UNFCCC conferences. These events provide a platform for information dissemination, capacity building, policy discussions and legitimizing global governance.
