More than four thousand people from all over the world showed up today outside the Convention center to help build a 400 meter long dike of sandbags. The event was organized by Milieu Defensie, the Dutch chapter of Friends of the Earth. COP-6 President Jan Pronk, UNEP Executive Director Klaus Toepfer and FCCC Executive Secretary helped put the finishing touches on the dike by adding sandbag. In a short speech, Pronk thanked people for their enthusiasm and assured them that inside the Center "a dike of agreed-upon words" to stop climate change was also being built. Executive Secretary Zammit Cutajar and Klaus Toepfer, head of UNEP, also addressed the crowd.
