Highlights for Wednesday, 6 June 2012
The 35th session of the IPCC opened in Geneva, Switzerland, on 6 June 2012. Delegates heard opening statements from IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri and representatives of the UN Environment Programme, World Meteorological Organization, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Swiss government.

After considering the request from UNFCCC, the IPCC plenary agreed to complete the review of chapter 4 of the IPCC Good Practice Guidance for Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry, by the end of 2013, with the exception of the section on project activities. The plenary also took up revisions to two documents: Procedures for the Preparation, Review, Acceptance, Adoption, Approval and Publication of IPCC Reports, and the Rules of Procedure for the Election of the IPCC Bureau and Any Task Force Bureau.

Delegates established a contact group to address remaining issues related to the review of the IPCC processes and procedures, including the roles of the IPCC Secretariat and Working Groups’ Technical Support Units, and discussed the draft Communications Strategy. In addition, the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI) and Conflict of Interest Committee presented their progress reports to the plenary.
