Highlights for Tuesday, 2 June 2009

In the morning, the SBI and SBSTA convened in plenary sessions. In the afternoon, the SBI plenary continued. The AWG-LCA convened in an informal plenary and the AWG-KP held contact groups on Annex I emission reductions and other issues identified by AWG-KP 6.

Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI)
Anabella Rosemberg, International Trade Union Confederation, said sustainable solutions come from the early inclusion of social and economic elements.
Richard Muyungi, Tanzania, deplored NAPA conditionalities attached to project financing.
Luis Santos, Uruguay, lamented halting the Consultative Group of Expert’s work as a “lost opportunity” and stressed its negative implications.
Robert Dixon, Global Environment Facility (GEF), presented the GEF's interim report on progress made in implementing the Poznán strategic programme on technology transfer.

Bruce Wilson, Australia, identified the need to build institutional capacity and called for regular data from all countries.
Haroldo Machado, Brazil, for the G-77/CHINA, expressed “profound disappointment” that the CGE has not operated for a year and a half, stressing that this undermines non-Annex I parties’ capacity to prepare national communications.
