Highlights from Thursday, 11 June

The Bonn Climate Change Conference concluded on Thursday, 11 June. In the morning, three facilitated groups took place under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) on adaptation and loss and damage, transparency, and compliance and implementation. In the afternoon, the ADP contact group convened to discuss the Co-Chairs’ proposal on how to move forward, followed by a brief closing plenary. The ADP suspended its second session at 4:46pm.

In the morning, the closing plenary of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) took place, inter alia, adopting conclusions on response measures and on methodological considerations for REDD+, which forwarded draft decisions for consideration by COP 21/CMP 11. The SBSTA closed at 11:40am.

In the afternoon, the closing plenary of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) took place. The SBI adopted conclusions on, inter alia, matters relating to the mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol, capacity building, Convention Article 6 (education, training and public awareness) and administrative, financial and institutional matters. The SBI agreed to forward draft decisions for consideration by COP 21/CMP 11 on matters relating to the least developed countries (LDCs), Convention Article 6 and the programme budget for the biennium 2016-2017. The SBI closed at 5:13pm.

Highlights from Wednesday, 10 June

The Bonn Climate Change Conference continued on Wednesday, 10 June. Facilitated groups under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) convened on: workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition), general/objective, and implementation and compliance in the morning; mitigation and finance in the afternoon; and procedural and institutional provisions, and workstream 2 in the evening.

Contact groups and informal consultations took place under the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Tehnological Advice (SBSTA) throughout the day. A special event on the Lima-Paris Action Agenda also convened.

The Bonn Climate Change Conference continued on Tuesday, 9 June. Facilitated groups under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) convened on: workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition) and finance in the morning; mitigation, capacity building and technology in the afternoon; and adaptation and loss and damage, and finance in the evening.

In the morning, the second part of the in-session workshop on gender-responsive climate policy with a focus on mitigation action and technology development and transfer convened.

Highlights from Monday, 8 June

The Bonn Climate Change Conference continued on Monday, 8 June. The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) contact group took stock of progress and exchanged views on the Paris outcome, including decision 1/CP.21 (the Paris package). Facilitated groups on timeframes, capacity building and technology convened in the afternoon, and on timeframes, transparency and the preamble in the evening.

A contact group under the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI) on intergovernmental arrangements took place in the morning, and informal consultations under the SBI and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Tehnological Advice (SBSTA) convened throughout the day. In the morning, the second part of the 4th meeting of the Durban Forum on Capacity-building and an in-session workshop on gender-responsive climate policy with a focus on mitigation action and technology development and transfer met. In the afternoon, the second voluntary meeting on the coordination of support for the implementation of REDD-plus activities in developing countries also convened.

Highlights from Saturday, 6 June

The Bonn Climate Change Conference continued on Saturday, 6 June. The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) facilitated groups convened on: adaptation and mitigation in the morning; finance, technology, and implementation and compliance in the afternoon; and transparency in the evening. The Technical Expert Meeting (TEM) on accelerating energy efficiency in urban environments continued in the morning, with parallel sessions on: lighting and district energy systems in cities; energy efficient building; and sustainable urban transport. A contact group under the SBI on intergovernmental arrangements convened in the morning, and informal consultations under both the SBI and SBSTA met throughout the day The in-session workshop on methodologies for reporting of financial information by Annex I parties to the Convention took place in the morning.

Highlights from Thursday, 4 June

On Thursday, 4 June, the Bonn Climate Change Conference continued, with the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) contact group taking stock of the work of the negotiating and facilitated groups. Facilitated groups took place on mitigation and adaptation in the afternoon and on workstream 2 and capacity building in the evening.

In the morning and afternoon, the second working group session of the multilateral assessment under the international assessment and review (IAR) process took place. A number of informal consultations convened under the SBSTA throughout the day.

The 7th meeting of the research dialogue under the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the in-session workshop on long-term finance took place in the afternoon. Highlights from Wednesday, 3 June

The Bonn Climate Change Conference continued on Wednesday, 3 June. ADP negotiating groups took up the first reading of the sections on time frames, and implementation and compliance in the Geneva negotiating text in the morning, and addressed the preamble, and procedural and institutional provisions in the afternoon. Informal facilitated group discussions on these issues, as well as on adaptation and finance, also took took place throughout the day and evening. The Technical Expert Meeting (TEM) on renewable energy supply convened throughout the day.

A number of informal consultations convened under the SBI and the SBSTA. The first part of the 4th meeting of the Durban Forum on Capacity-building took place in the morning. In the afternoon, the second session of the 3rd Dialogue on Convention Article 6 (education, training and public awareness) convened, as did an in-session workshop on the assessment of risk and vulnerability of agriculture systems to different climate change scenarios at regional and local levels, including but not limited to pests and diseases, convened.

The Bonn Climate Change Conference continued on Tuesday, 2 June. ADP negotiating groups took up the first readings of the sections on technology and finance in the morning, and on transparency and capacity building in the afternoon. Informal facilitated discussions took place during lunch and in the evening on technology, finance, transparency and capacity building.

Contact groups and informal sessions convened under the SBI and SBSTA throughout the morning and afternoon. The first session of the 3rd Dialogue on Convention Article 6 (education, training and public awareness) and an in-session workshop on the development of early warning systems and contingency plans in relation to extreme weather events and their various effects in the context of agriculture also took place.

Highlights from Monday, 1 June

The Bonn Climate Change Conference opened on Monday, 1 June, with a welcoming ceremony, which was followed by the opening plenaries of the ADP, SBSTA and SBI to open agenda items for consideration during SB 42 and ADP 2-9. In the morning, the ADP commenced the joint first reading of the text on general/objective.

In the afternoon, two negotiating groups began the first readings of the text on adaptation and loss and damage, and mitigation. During lunch and in the evening, informal facilitated groups convened under the ADP to continue discussions on general/objective, mitigation, and adaptation and loss and damage with a view to streamlining the Geneva negotiating text and consolidating options.
