Highlights for Tuesday, 25 September 2012
On Tuesday, 25 September, the First Meeting of Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks entered its second day of discussions in Bonn, Germany. In the morning, participants received the report of the Credentials Committee, and listened to a presentation by the FAO on the review of the implementation of the International Plan of Action for the Conservation and Management of Sharks. This was followed by parallel sessions of the working groups on the draft conservation plan and on administrative and budgetary matters. In the afternoon, participants continued discussions on possible amendments to the conservation plan’s sections on information exchange, fisheries-related research, monitoring and data collection, and sustainable management of shark populations.

Reception
In the evening, participants attended a side event and reception hosted by the Pew Charitable Trust. Participants were trained on how to visually identify various types of shark species based on features of their dorsal fins, including hammerhead, Porbeagle and oceanic white tip shark.
