WHO DIRECTOR Passes Away
World Health Organization Director-General Lee Jong-wook has died after a short illness. He was 61 years old. Dr. Lee had been hospitalized two days earlier after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain. Having taken over the WHO in July 2003, Dr. Lee had made the fight against HIV/AIDS “a hallmark of his tenure.” More information (22 May 2006).
