UNEP Seeks Executive Secretary of the Stockholm, Basel and Rotterdam Secretariats

UNEP is seeking to recruit a senior manager to fill the position of Executive Secretary of the Basel, Stockholm and UNEP-part of the Rotterdam Convention Secretariats. The responsibilities of the D2 position include the direction and management of the three secretariats as well as acting as an advisor to the UNEP Executive Director and to the Presidents and the Bureaus of each convention. GEF Seeks POPs and Chemicals Management Specialist

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat is seeking to recruit a POPs and Chemicals Management specialist to support its work in addressing new and growing challenges under the Stockholm Convention, new and on-going challenges under the Montreal Protocol, and an expanding mandate relative to mercury and sound chemicals management. UNCCD SEEKS COORDINATORS FOR SCIENCE AND POLICY UNITS

The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has posted advertisements for the following positions: Coordinator of Knowledge Management, Science and Technology; and Coordinator of Policy Advocacy, Global and Emerging Issues. UNFCCC Head TO Step Down

Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, has announced that he will resign his position as of 1 July 2010.The announcement indicated that, following his departure, he will be joining the consultancy group KPMG as Global Adviser on Climate and Sustainability, as well as working with a number of universities. De Boer, who was appointed Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC Secretariat in September 2006, recognized that it was a difficult decision, but that the time was ripe for him to "take on a new challenge" by working on climate and sustainability with the private sector and academia. Mr. de Boer will remain in his current position until 1st July and help negotiations move forward ahead of the Climate Change Conference in Mexico in November this year. More information.

UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis has conveyed to the UN Secretary-General that, due to personal family reasons, he has decided not to seek a second term when his current term comes to an end, on 1 March 2009.  More information.

The UN Compensation Commission, which was established in 1991
to process and pay claims for loss and damage arising from Iraq's unlawful invasion and occupation of Kuwait in 1990, is seeking a Senior Programme Officer to perform tasks related to the Follow-up Programme for Environmental Awards. More information.

US EPA TO SEEK TWO ENVIRONMENTAL/ENERGY ECONOMISTS
The Climate Change Division (CCD) of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for conducting economic analyses of the mitigation of greenhouse gases (GHGs); assessing long-term projections of climate change, including potential impacts to human health and the environment; coordinating domestic and international policies relating to climate change; and developing the official US inventory of GHGs. CCD is currently seeking two environmental/energy economists. One
position is in the Climate Economics Branch, which is responsible for conducting analyses of the economic effects of GHG emission reductions and carbon sequestration, including areas such as capital turn-over and technological diffusion. The other position is for an economist who can contribute to assessing climate change mitigation policy options, particularly in the US energy sector. UNFCCC ANNOUNCES PROGRAMME OFFICER VACANCIES

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has announced a series of professional-level vacancies at its headquarters in Bonn, Germany. The posts, which range from associate programme officer positions (designated as P-2 UN postings) to a legal officer vacancy (at the P-4 level), are primarily in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) unit, although the legal officer post is in the Legal Affairs Programme. The deadlines vary depending on the particular position, with several closing dates in mid- to late-March. More information.

RESEARCH TEAM FOR US NATIONAL HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT SEEKS AN ECONOMIST

The research/writing team for a National Human Development Report for the US, which is being produced for the first time, is looking for an economist with a strong interest in social justice issues in the US and expertise in public policy in one or more dimensions of human development. The project is an independent effort that will draw on the conceptual framework and advocacy model of the global Human Development Report, which has been replicated in over 140 countries.
