Oslo Rountable on Sustainable Production and Consumption

Elements for an International Work Programme on Sustainable Production and Consumption

The goal of the Oslo Ministerial Roundtable was to prepare elements for an international work programme on sustainable production and consumption as mandated by the second session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) in May 1994. This document includes contributions and summarizes discussions at the Roundtable and its preparatory process by all the partners, governments, intergovernmental organisations, NGOs, business, trade unions and the academic community. The document contains a menu of recommendations for all the partners. As Chairman of the Roundtable I will put this report forward to the CSD for consideration at its third session in April 1995.

As Mahatma Gandhi said: «The Earth has enough for everyone’s ned but not for everyone’s greed». This insight should guide us throughout our work on this issue.
