Special Session of the General Assembly to Review and Appraise the Implementation of Agenda 21

The Secretariat has posted the Updated Advance Unedited Copy of the Proposed Outcome of the Special Session on its website. The text reflects outcome of negotiations at the fifth session of the CSD, which took place from 8-25 April 1997.


The provisional list of speakers (No. 2) for the debate on the overall review and appraisal of the implement-ation of Agenda 21 is now available at the General Assembly Secretariat Services Branch (Room S-3670J).


On Thursday, 1 May 1997, the resumed organizational session of ECOSOC convened in New York to elect members of various commissions. The following countries were elected to the Commission on Sustainable Development for a 3-year term beginning on 1 January 1998:
  • Africa: Algeria, Mauritania, Mauritius, Ctte d'Ivoire,
  • Asia: Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Islamic Republic of Iran, Philippines, Sri Lanka,
  • Eastern Europe: Czech Republic, Hungary
  • Latin America and Caribbean: Brazil, Nicaragua, Peru.
  • Western European and Other States: France, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain.
