The fifth meeting of pilot countries participating in the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP) will be held in Bandos Island, Maldives, from 28-30 May 2013. The SREP is a targeted program of the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF), one of two funds under the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) disbursed by the Multilateral Development Banks, and administered by the World Bank. The SREP aims to: scale up the deployment of renewable energy solutions and expand renewable markets in the world’s poorest countries; and pilot and demonstrate the economic, social, and environmental viability of low-carbon development pathways in the energy sectors of low-income countries. The program finances solar, wind, bio-energy, geothermal and small hydro technologies.

During the meeting, pilot and reserve countries and members of the CIF Administrative Unit will, inter alia: share updates on planning, project preparation and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and assessing climate investment readiness; and discuss specific measures their countries are taking to stimulate effective partnerships between multiple stakeholders in the implementation of SREP investment plans. Further information, including the provisional agenda, can be obtained here.

IISD RS will produce daily web coverage and a summary report from this meeting. Kindly return to this site on Tuesday, 28 May 2013, for more information.
