The 45th session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will convene 15-19 October 2018 in Rome, Italy.
Established in 1974 and reformed in 2009, the CFS serves as an inclusive international and intergovernmental platform for all stakeholders to work together to ensure food security and nutrition for all. Its mandate is to: coordinate a global approach to food security; promote policy convergence; support and advise countries and regions; coordinate at national and regional levels; promote accountability and share best practices; and develop a global strategic framework for food security and nutrition.
CFS 45 will address issues arising from its Multi-year Programme of Work for 2018-2019 adopted at CFS 44. These include:
- Consideration of the report on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in 2018;
- A panel discussion on the report on the State of Food and Agriculture 2018;
- Terms of reference for policy guidance on food systems and nutrition;
- A Global Thematic Event on the Right to Food Guidelines;
- CFS and the 2030 Agenda, including: CFS’s contributions to the High-level Political Forum (HLPF), a report on Multi-stakeholder Partnerships to Finance and Improve Food Security and Nutrition in the Framework of the 2030 Agenda, and good practices and lessons sharing; and
- Operational issues, including the implementation of the response to the evaluation of CFS and development of the Strategic Multi-year Programme of Work 2020-2023.
