IISD Reporting Services - EAT The high-level event on “Urban Food Systems: The Nutrition Challenge” will take place on Tuesday, 20 September 2016 at UN Headquarters in New York, US. Hosted by the EAT Foundation in collaboration with Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event will convene on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly.

This third annual “EATx UNGA” will explore how behaviors associated with living in cities contribute to obesity, the lack of nutritious foods for city dwellers, and environmental impacts of producing energy-intensive foods. The organizers note that “feeding the world’s growing population healthy food on a stable planet requires joint efforts from all sectors of society,” and that several key processes in 2016 provide opportunities to address the challenges.

The event aims to discuss concrete solutions and commitments, and will include a series of keynotes and an interactive panel discussion involving prominent experts from government, academia, the private sector, the UN and civil society.

EATx UNGA 2016 is co-sponsored by: Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation – International Sustainability Unit; C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group; Nordic Council of Ministers; New York Academy of Sciences; NCD Alliance; Save the Children; World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD); Permanent Mission of Palau to the UN; Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Business Network; The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN); and the World Bank Group.

IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB+ Meeting Coverage, will provide a briefing note of the High-level Side Event: Urban Food Systems: The Nutrition Challenge, on Wednesday, 21 September 2016.
