Fifth Forest Investment Program (FIP) Pilot Country Meeting

24-26 September 2013 | Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Daily web coverage (click on the following links to see our daily web pages)
The fifth meeting of pilot countries participating in the Forest Investment Program (FIP) will take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 24-26 September 2013. The meeting will engage pilot countries in addressing monitoring and reporting issues. It will also discuss and exchange knowledge and experiences on: institutional arrangements for local forest management and governance; jurisdictional approaches to reducing deforestation and forest degradation, and to promoting sustainable forest management that leads to emissions reductions and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+); and traditional land uses, land use rights and stakeholder involvement.

The FIP is a targeted program of the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF), which is one of two funds within the Climate Investment Funds (CIF). It aims to support developing countries in REDD+ implementation through grants and near-zero interest credits disbursed by Multilateral Development Banks and administered by the World Bank. It also leverages additional resources, including from the private sector. In this manner, the FIP, inter alia, promotes forest mitigation efforts, assists in building institutional capacity, mainstreaming climate resilience and biodiversity conservation, protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, and reducing poverty.
