Final Briefing

DAILY COVERAGE

On the final day of IFF-3, delegates initially met in Plenary and decided to reconvene in Working Group 1 and the contact group on programme elements under Working Group 2. Working Group 1 held a final discussion on the Co-Chairs' report on underlying causes of deforestation and forest degradation. The resolved some issues, but a number of key proposals remained in brackets. The contact group made final changes to the draft texts on valuation, rehabilitation of forests in environmentally critical areas, economic instruments and future supply and demand. The heavily bracketed text on financial resources will be forwarded to IFF-4 for further negotiations. In closing Plenary, delegates adopted draft texts on programme elements to be forwarded to IFF-4 as part of the report of IFF-3. Delegations offered closing remarks and IFF-3 was drawn to a close at 5:40 pm.
