During the morning Council session, delegates discussed CITES listing proposals for tropical timber species, measures to improve the ITTO project cycle, and collaboration with the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

COMMITTEES
The Committee on Economic Information and Market Intelligence continued discussions on policy work, including studies on subsidies of tropical timber products, and a conference on transportation of tropical timber. The Committee on Forest Industry reviewed projects under implementation. The Committee on Reforestation and Forest Management discussed policy work and a proposal for a funded extension for a project on a model forest management system in Nigeria. The Committee on Finance and Administration held its second session, and discussed a request by Liberia for cancellation of its debt to ITTO due to extenuating circumstances.

Morris Kapong Senap (Malaysia) described the third phase of a project on a model forest management area, for which an extension with additional funding had been requested. |

Stewart Maginnis (IUCN) said that preliminary results show that if existing regulations and SFM guidelines are followed, then it will not be prohibitively costly to implement the new ITTO/IUCN biodiversity guidelines. |

Charlotte Cudby (New Zealand) noted that if the baseline study were able to answer all questions, people would query the need for a conference. |
