On Tuesday, 26 April 2016, the UN Forum on Forests’ (UNFF) Open-ended Intergovernmental Αd Ηoc Expert Group (AHEG1) Established Pursuant to Paragraph 48 of ECOSOC resolution 2015/33 convened for its second day.

In the morning, AHEG members finished their discussions on required strategic approaches and actions to achieve the objectives of the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF), including possible goals and targets for the IAF Strategic Plan, and possible priority actions. They also discussed possible elements of the four-year programme of work (4POW) for 2017-2020.

Discussions then turned to elements of the ‘framework for reviewing implementation’ of the Strategic Plan, with discussion continuing in the afternoon. AHEG members specifically addressed: resource needs for implementation of the Strategic Plan and the 4POW; setting priorities for the Global Forest Financing Facilitation Network (G3FNet); monitoring, assessment and reporting (MAR) of the UN Forest Instrument, and of the Strategic Plan; contributions to the follow-up, review and implementation of the forest-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, under the High Level Political Forum (HLPF); and the roles of UNFF, member states, the UNFF Secretariat, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), G3FNet, regional and sub-regional organizations, Major Groups and other stakeholders.
