The International Hydropower Association (IHA) World Congress 2013 will convene for its biennial meeting in Kuching, Malaysia, from 21-24 May 2013 on the theme “advancing sustainable hydropower.”

The Congress will bring together participants to discuss a range of issues including: financing models; hydropower development; sustainability; energy policy; water policy; and climate change. The core programme includes a high-level panel on directions for hydropower and a CEO roundtable addressing what is modern hydropower. Plenary sessions will also take place on: water and energy policies; informing decision making - emerging roles for the Protocol; incorporating sustainability into business practice; and a closing session.

Parallel sessions will address: risk, sustainability and international finance; regional interconnections - making it work and maximizing value; who’s investing in hydropower; working with project affected communities; hydropower’s climate story; and renewable systems - sharing experience.

Meetings of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council, IHA, and the IHA Consultative Council will convene.

A pre-Congress networking tour and a post-Congress study tour will also take place. On 20 May, a pre-Congress Hydropower and Regional Development Workshop will address indicators of success.
