Saturday was the last day of the first plenary of IPBES.

In the morning and afternoon, the contact group on the rules of procedure and the contact group on an initial budget for IPBES met to finalize their work.

The plenary convened in the afternoon and evening. In the afternoon, delegates elected Zakri Abdul Hamid (Malaysia) as the first Chair of IPBES, and Robert Watson (UK) as vice-chair for Western Europe and Other States.

In the evening, the plenary took decisions on, among other things, the initial work programme, administrative and institutional arrangements, rules of procedure, and the initial budget. The meeting was closed at 7:25pm.
