IISD Reporting Services - IWC IWC66 will be held from 24 to 28 October 2016 in Portorož, Slovenia. The Commission meeting will be preceded by meetings of the Sub-Committees on Conservation, Finance and Administration, Budget, Aboriginal Subsistence Whaling, Infractions, and Whale Killing Methods and Animal Welfare.

IWC66 will address, among other things: the Commission Budget for 2017-2018; enhancing the effectiveness of the IWC; a proposal for a South Atlantic Whale Sanctuary; improving the review process for whaling under special permit; cetaceans and ecosystem services; and the creation of a fund to strengthen the capacity of governments of limited means to participate in the work of the IWC.
