Inter-regional Preparatory Meeting for SIDS Conference Suspended

28 August 2013: The Inter-regional Preparatory Meeting (IPM) for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) discussed pressing issues and emerging challenges facing SIDS in preparation for the 2014 conference. Negotiations on an outcome document could not be concluded, however, and the IPM will resume in New York ahead of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). More.

BBNJ Working Group Makes Progress Towards Rio+20 Commitment

23 August 2013: The sixth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group (the Working Group) to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction (BBNJ) aimed to identify gaps and ways forward with a view to ensuring an effective legal framework on BBNJ, drawing on inputs provided by intersessional workshops that were held in early May 2013 to improve understanding of BBNJ issues and lead to a more productive debate in the Working Group. First Africa Food Security and Adaptation Conference Focuses on Ecosystem-based Approaches

21 August 2013: The First Africa Food Security and Adaptation Conference: Harnessing Ecosystem-based Approaches for Food Security and Adaptation to Climate Change in Africa was convened by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), other UN agencies, governments and other stakeholders, to explore ecosystem-based approaches to enhance food security, ecosystem productivity and climate change adaptation in Africa. Experts on Long-term Finance Consider Enabling Environments and Pathways for Mobilizing Climate Finance

20 August 2013: The Second Meeting of Experts on Long-term Finance (LTF) focused on aspects of the extended work programme on LTF under the UNFCCC. Participants made good progress on the topics of focus of the thematic sessions. However, it was recognized that more work remains to be done on defining climate finance, on improving the tracking and reporting of climate finance flows, and on overcoming the barriers to the pathways for mobilizing scale-up climate finance.
