Warsaw Climate Change Conference Concludes With Decisions on REDD+, Loss and Damage

GEF Council Approves US$259.84 Million Work Program

7 November 2013: The 45th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council considered, inter alia: the progress report on the pilot accreditation of GEF Project Agencies; the mid-term evaluation of the System for Transparent Allocation of Resources (STAR); the mid-term evaluation of the National Portfolio Formulation Exercise (NPFE); an update on the GEF-6 replenishment; a review of GEF Agencies on their application of environmental and social safeguards and gender mainstreaming; and an update on the development of the GEF 2020 strategy. The GEF Council also approved a Work Program amounting to US$259.84 million. More.

Global Soil Week Addresses Soil-Related Challenges to Sustainable Development

28 October 2013: A joint meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC) of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and the Chemical Review Committee (CRC) of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade convened the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, followed by the ninth ordinary meeting of the CRC. MOP 25 Adopts Decisions on ODS Alternatives, SIDS

25 October 2013: The 25th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP 25) agreed to the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) report on alternatives to ozone depleting substances (ODS), adopted a decision on phasing out ODS in small island developing States (SIDS) in light of the upcoming Third International Conference on SIDS, and adopted a decision on the terms of reference for the study of the 2015-2017 multilateral fund (MLF) replenishment, among other decisions. 21 October 2013: The seventeenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 17) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) focused on the scientific and technical needs related to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and its Aichi targets, and its contribution to the intersessional process of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
