OWG Starts Consideration of SDG Focus Areas

5 March 2014: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) convened from 3-5 March 2014, for the first session in its "consensus-building phase," which seeks to identify SDGs and accompanying targets. Delegates considered the list of 19 Focus Areas compiled by the Co-Chairs, participated in a joint meeting with the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing (ICESDF), heard the reactions of Major Groups to the Focus Areas, and discussed the way forward for its upcoming session. Workshop Considers Experiences with Technologies for Adaptation

4 March 2014: During the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC) Workshop on Technologies for Adaptation, several speakers presented case studies on developing and implementing technologies for adaptation in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Participants exchanged views and ideas on lessons learned and barriers to, and enabling environments for, the successful implementation of adaptation technologies. Participants also suggested potential areas of action for the TEC. More.

ICNP 3 Adopts Recommendations in Preparation for COP/MOP 1, Makes Progress on Compliance

3 March 2014: The third Meeting of the Open-ended Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ICNP 3) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted a series of recommendations in preparation for the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (COP/MOP 1) to the Protocol. Seven Governments Host Workshop on HLPF Review Mechanism

24 February 2014: A workshop on ‘Making the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Work: How to build an effective “Review Mechanism”' was sponsored by IISD and seven governments' permanent missions to the UN: Egypt, Liechtenstein, Norway, Peru, Pakistan, the Republic of Korea and Switzerland. The workshop sought to create an open discussion around the HLPF's review mechanism that will begin in 2016. More.

Africa-EU Energy Partnership Adopts Addis Ababa Communiqué

17 February 2014: The Second High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) concluded with the adoption of the Addis Ababa Communiqué, which contains key messages and recommendations on achieving the AEEP's 2020 Targets for Africa, and is to be forwarded to African and EU Heads of State and Government at the EU-Africa Summit in April 2014.
