SBSTTA-18 Adopts Recommendations on Scientific Issues Related to Aichi Targets Implementation

28 June 2014: The 18th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) addressed a series of items related to the scientific base required for the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and its Aichi biodiversity targets, including the fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-4), marine- and climate-related issues, and invasive alien species (IAS). First UNEA Session Adopts Resolutions and Decisions

27 June 2014: The first session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) concluded with delegates from 160 countries adopting a decision and resolutions on, inter alia: strengthening the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) role in promoting air quality; the science-policy interface (SPI); ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA); implementation of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development; illegal trade in wildlife; chemicals and waste; and marine debris and microplastics. Partnership Forum Explores Ways to Maximize CIF Effectiveness

24 June 2014: The 2014 Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Partnership Forum was co-hosted by the CIF and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The Partnership Forum brought together approximately 500 participants to share lessons emerging from the CIF on how to foster partnerships and attract investment to deliver low-carbon and climate-resilient development. World Day to Combat Desertification Event Focuses on Ecosystem-based Adaptation

17 June 2014: The 2014 World Day to Combat Desertification global observance event focused on the theme of ecosystem-based adaptation, with a rallying call “Land Belongs to the Future – Let's Climate Proof It.” On the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the UNCCD, speakers at the global observance event considered the requirements for ecosystem-based adaptation to address issues related to desertification, land degradation and drought as well as shared successful cases of combating desertification in drylands. OWG 12 Completes Review of SDGs Zero Draft

20 June 2014: At the 12th session of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), delegates worked primarily in informal sessions and considered proposed Goals 7-17. Discussion on proposed Goals 1-6 had taken place in “informal-informal” consultations the previous week. More.

17 June 2014: The UN Development Group convened a regional consultation for Europe and Central Asia, on the theme 'Doing Good to Do Better: Successful corporate strategies that benefit society,' as part of the dialogues on implementing the post-2015 development agenda. More.

Working Group Discusses Scope, Parameters and Feasibility of Agreement on BBNJ

19 June 2014: The eighth meeting of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction (BBNJ) worked to clarify a series of substantive elements of a new agreement on BBNJ that were considered necessary to prepare recommendations to the UNGA at the next meeting of the Working Group. Bonn Climate Change Conference Paves the Way to Lima

15 June 2014: The Bonn Climate Change Conference took place in Bonn, Germany, from 4-15 June 2014, and included the 40th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA). The fifth meeting of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-5) also took place. More.
