CBD COP 12 Adopts 33 Decisions, Nagoya Protocol COP/MOP 1 Adopts 10 Decisions

17 October 2014: The twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 12) was held from 6-17 October 2014, in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea. The first meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (NP COP/MOP 1) was held during the second week of CBD COP 12, from 13-17 October 2014. A High-Level Segment was held from 15-17 October 2014, under the theme “Biodiversity for Sustainable Development.” Other parallel meetings included: the Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Fair; the Rio Conventions Pavilion; and the Biodiversity Summit for Cities and Sub-national Governments. UNECE Committee Approves Work on Sustainable Housing and Urban Development, Land Management

9 December 2014: The 75th session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Committee on Housing and Land Management (CHLM) agreed on the text of the Geneva UN Charter on Sustainable Housing and decided on new work regarding energy efficiency in housing, smart cities, urban planning and disaster risk reduction, social housing, preparations for the Third United Nations on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), and various issues in land administration and management. Biosafety COP/MOP Adopts 14 Decisions, Extends Work on Risk Assessment, Socio-economic Considerations

3 October 2014: The seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP/MOP 7) adopted 14 decisions, including decisions providing for continued intersessional work on risk assessment and risk management and socio-economic considerations. Regional Seas Global Meeting Agrees on Oceans Roadmap, Marine Litter Actions, Suggests SDG Targets

1 October 2014: Participants agreed on a "visioning roadmap" for the conservation and sustainable use of the world's oceans at the 16th Global Meeting of the Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (RSCAPs). The ten-year road map addresses: the extraction of living and non-living marine resources; governance; impacts of a changing climate; ocean acidification; and pollution. More.
