FfD-Post-2015 Joint Session Debates Synergies, Technology, Ambition

24 April 2015: Delegates to the fourth session of intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda, which convened as a joint meeting with the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD 3) process, debated how the two processes should relate to each other. Some said the FfD3 process should comprise the means of implementation (MOI) section of the post-2015 development agenda, while others viewed them as warranting distinct outcomes. More.

Montreal Protocol OEWG 35 Agrees to Work Intersessionally on HFC Management

24 April 2015: The 35th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 35) of the parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer concluded with Parties' agreement to continue to work intersessionally in an informal manner to study the feasibility and ways of managing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). This work will aim to initiate contact group discussions on the feasibility and ways of managing HFCs, at OEWG 36. More.

Global Soil Week 2015: Healthy Soils and Land Justice Underpin Transformation to Sustainability

24 April 2015: “A transformation towards sustainable soil management is possible if all actors are integrated in the search for solutions.” This statement was among concluding remarks made by Klaus Töpfer, Executive Director, Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies and Chair of the Third Global Soil Week. Töpfer welcomed the contribution of the Secretariats of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, noting “this sends a strong signal” of the growing shift from silos towards "a systems approach” in addressing multiple agendas. Member States Review FfD 3 Zero Draft

17 April 2015: The second drafting session on the outcome document of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD 3) focused on reviewing the zero draft of the outcome document, the Addis Ababa Accord, circulated by Co-Facilitators George Talbot, Guyana, and Geir Pedersen, Norway. ICP-16 Expresses Support for Oceans SDG, Discusses Integration of Sustainable Development

10 April 2015: The 16th Meeting of the UN Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (ICP-16) discussed proposed Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 on oceans and seas and its implementation, and reflected on the utility of the Consultative Process in the evolution of the international oceans agenda.
