FfD 3 Negotiators Focus on Finalizing Document

22 June 2015: Following three weeks of "additional" sessions for negotiations and many contact groups and bilateral sessions, delegates gathered for the Third Drafting Session for the outcome document of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD 3) from 15-22 June 2015. On the evening of 22 June 2015, the Third Drafting Session was suspended for three days, to allow negotiations to continue on issues of “great sensitivity” at the political level. More.

Bonn Climate Conference Focuses on Streamlining Negotiating Text for 2015 Agreement

11 June 2015: Delegates at the Bonn Climate Change Conference faced a gargantuan task. Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-9) negotiators had to produce a streamlined and concise negotiating text for the 2015 agreement, consider which elements to include in the agreement, and which ones to leave to COP decisions, and start substantive negotiations. They also had to continue efforts to enhance pre-2020 climate action. More.

Ramsar COP 12 Adopts Declaration of Punta del Este, 16 Resolutions

9 June 2015: The 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP 12) agreed on four strategic priorities that link the wise use of wetlands to solving pressing issues, such as climate change and food and water security. Noting the loss of 64% of global wetlands since 1900, the final declaration calls for strengthening partnerships “beyond those responsible for the operation and maintenance of Ramsar Sites and important wetlands,” to enhance the Convention's implementation. GEF Council Approves Largest Proposed Work Program in History of GEF Financing

4 June 2015: The 48th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council adopted the largest proposed Work Program in the history of GEF financing, involving a total of US$709 million of GEF Trust Fund resources, plus an indicative amount of US$4.81 billion in co-financing. The Work Program encompasses Integrated Approach Pilots (IAPs) on sustainable cities, food security in sub-Saharan Africa, and taking deforestation out of commodity supply chains, as well as other projects and programs. CEM6 Announces Actions for Global Clean Energy Transition

28 May 2015: During the sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6), “ambitious actions to accelerate the global transition to clean energy” were announced, including global efforts addressing critical technology and policy challenges of efficient lighting, low-carbon power systems and information availability regarding low-carbon development policies. At CEM6, ministers agreed to launch an enhanced, second phase of work under the CEM, referred to as “CEM 2.0.” More.
