A Paradigm Shift in Development?
After the 69th session of the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution that transmits the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to the UNGA's 70th session and its summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the moment represented the beginning of a new era and the 2030 Agenda marks a paradigm shift in development. Video Series Unpacks International Climate Governance

August 2015: IISD has produced four videos to provide an introduction to the history, issues, actors and dynamics in global climate governance. The videos tell the story of climate governance through interviews with those who make, implement and remake institutions for climate change. They contain interviews with 60 people, from Assistant Secretary General Janos Pasztor and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner, to frontline delegates drafting the new agreement's text and civil society working to influence policy. 6th Regional 3R Forum Examines Economic Opportunities Offerred by 3Rs and Resource Efficiency

19 August 2015: The Sixth Regional 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) Forum in Asia and the Pacific discussed the linkages between waste management, tourism, water security and sustainable urban management in the region, as well as the economic and employment opportunities posed by 3Rs and resource efficiency. The Chair's Summary from the event suggests, among other things: promoting waste minimization and low-carbon development; creating certification and labeling systems to inform consumers of about the sustainability performance of traded goods and services; establishing a regional scientific and community advisory panel; setting up a network of regional innovation centers; phasing out subsidies that conflict with resource efficiency and waste minimization objectives; and developing regional financing mechanisms to support innovative projects based on the 3R principles. The document also recognizes the contribution of the 3Rs to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the post-2015 development agenda. More.
