Second Our Ocean Conference Galvanizes 80 Initiatives, US$2.1 Billion in Commitments

6 October 2015: The Second Our Ocean Conference generated US$2.1 billion in commitments on oceans, including announcements of more than 80 initiatives on marine conservation and protection and the protection of over 1.9 million square kilometers of ocean. The Conference aimed to promote voluntary governmental and institutional commitments to care for the world's oceans. More.

ICCM4 Adopts Resolutions on HHPs, Management beyond 2020

2 October 2015: The fourth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM4) gathered over 450 delegates from governments, international organizations, and NGOs and industry to consider the sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020, the overall orientation and guidance (OOG), emerging policy issues (EPIs) and other issues of concern, progress towards attaining the 2020 goal on the sound management of chemicals and waste (the 2020 goal), and the activities of the Secretariat and the budget, among other issues. Climate Action Conference Focuses on Local Governments Driving Transformation

2 October 2015: During the International Conference on Climate Action (ICCA2015), which convened under the theme 'Local Governments Driving Transformation,' participants highlighted the leading role of sub-national actors in fighting climate change and formulated messages to convey to negotiators at the Paris Climate Change Conference. Aviation Summit Discusses Ways to Deliver Sustainable Air Transport

30 September 2015: The Eighth Global Sustainable Aviation Summit convened to discuss ways of delivering sustainable air transport. The Summit included sessions on: the contribution of technology in meeting the carbon reduction goal; sustainable alternative aviation fuels; aviation climate solutions case studies; environmental management; emerging environmental issues; and achieving sustainable aviation in the long-term. The role of air transport in reducing illegal trade in wildlife and the upcoming session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC were also discussed. More.


Heads of State and Government Adopt 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

27 September 2015: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) formally adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at a summit of Heads of State and Government. Many speakers called the agreement a historic moment in forging a sustainable pathway for people and the planet. More.
