CCDA-V Delegates Consider Progress on UNFCCC Objectives, Africa's Role

30 October 2015: The 5th Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-V) concluded with delegates stressing that developing homegrown climate information and policy frameworks will be important for responding to Africa's needs and strengthening governance practices, and that domestic resource mobilization is necessary to scale up proven green development strategies and innovations. ADP 2-11 Issues Non-Papers for Basis of Work in Paris

23 October 2015: Parties to the UNFCCC, at the conclusion of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-11), issued two non-papers, one containing draft agreement text and draft decision text related to the agreement (workstream 1 of ADP's mandate) and the other containing draft decision text related to pre-2020 ambition (workstream 2). UNCCD COP 12 Discusses SDG Target on Land Degradation Neutrality, DLDD Links with Climate Change

23 October 2015: The 12th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 12) adopted 35 decisions following deliberations on agenda items related to desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD), including how to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals' (SDG) target to achieve land degradation neutrality (LDN) and how to align the UNCCD's goals and Parties' action programmes with the Goals. CITES PC22 Considers Species Listings

23 October 2105: The twenty-second meeting of the Plants Committee (PC22) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has forwarded recommendations to the 66th meeting of the Standing Committee (SC), which will convene prior to CITES CoP17. More.

POPRC-11 Recommends Listing decaBDE, Advances Work on SCCPs, PFOA

23 October 2015: The 11th meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC-11) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants recommended one chemical for listing the Convention's Annex A, advanced one chemical to the risk management evaluation (RME) preparation stage and another to the draft risk profile (DRP) preparation stage, and set out intersessional work on two others. GEF Council Reappoints CEO Naoko Ishii for Second Term

22 October 2015: The 49th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council approved a work program amounting to US$254.99 million. In addition, GEF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairperson Naoko Ishii was appointed for a second four-year term. More.

FOREST EUROPE Ministerial Conferences Conclude

21 October 2015: The seventh Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe adopted a Ministerial Declaration on '25 Years Together Promoting Sustainable Forest Management in Europe,' a decision on the future direction of FOREST EUROPE, and resolutions on the forest sector in the center of a green economy and protection of forests in a changing environment. The Extraordinary Ministerial Conference received the results of the work of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for a Legally Binding Agreement on Forests in Europe (INC-Forests) and agreed to explore ways to find common ground on the draft no later than 2020. 16 October 2015: Governments have agreed to combat hunger and undernutrition faced by people living in protracted crises around the world through the adoption, at the 42nd session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 42), of the voluntary 'Framework for Action on Food Security and Nutrition in Protracted Crises.' CMS Raptors MoS2 Adds Additional Vulture and Raptor Species to Annex 1

8 October 2015: The Second Meeting of the Signatories (MoS2) to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Memorandum of Understanding concerning the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MoU) has concluded with agreement to protect additional species of vultures and raptors.
