INC7 Advances Preparations for Minamata Convention

March 2016: The seventh session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to Prepare a Global Legally Binding Instrument on Mercury (INC7) convened in preparation for the Minamata Convention's entry into force. Delegates provisionally adopted technical guidance documents on: controlling emissions and determining emission limits; identifying individual stocks of mercury and mercury compounds; procedures for export and import of mercury; operation of a financial mechanism; and draft rules of procedure and draft financial rules for the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention. SDSN Events Discuss Translating SDGs into National Context

March 2016: The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the UN University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) jointly organized an international symposium and workshop with government, academics, private sector and civil society partners to discuss translating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into national contexts and promoting implementation. More.

IPBES Approves Assessments on Pollinators, Scenarios and Modelling

February 2016: The Fourth Plenary session of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-4) approved summaries for policy makers of the Platform's first assessments on Pollination, Pollinators and Food Production, and on Scenarios and Models for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. Delegates also agreed to launch a new assessment on biodiversity and ecosystem services, and to launch a thematic assessment on invasive alien species and their control and a methodological assessment on diverse conceptualization of multiple values of nature and its benefits. IPBES-4 delegates also elected Robert Watson (UK) as the Platform's new Chair. More.
