UNEA-2 Discusses Implementation of 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement

28 May 2015: The second session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has concluded with the adoption of 24 resolutions as well as decisions about UNEA-3. Some major areas of focus of the meeting included, inter alia: implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement; illegal trade in wildlife; and marine litter and debris. UNEA-2 convened under the theme, 'Delivering on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.' More.

UNFSA Adopts Recommendations to Conserve Migratory and Straddling Fish Stocks

30 May 2016: The Resumed Review Conference on the Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982 relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks (UNFSA, or the Agreement) agreed on an outcome document with a set of recommendations for securing the conservation and management of straddling fish stocks and highly migratory fish stocks. Bonn Climate Change Conference Kick-Starts Technical Work

26 May 2016: Taking place in the shadow of the historic Paris Conference, the Bonn Climate Change Conference of the UNFCCC was a low-profile meeting with an ambitious agenda. The meeting initiated work on building the necessary foundation for the operationalization of the Paris Agreement, not only by launching work under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA), but also by identifying overlaps and synergies among the tasks of the three subsidiary bodies, a key endeavor for the coherence of the future climate regime. Delegates also started making the transition to a more technical phase of work, although under the APA they did not agree to any calls for technical papers or technical workshops, which would have provided the basis for digging deeper into these questions at COP 22. Over 500 Stakeholders Discuss AEEP's 2020 Targets

17 May 2016: The Second Stakeholder Forum of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), which took place from 16-17 May 2016, in Milan, Italy, focused on how to advance renewable energy innovation, capacity building and investment, under the overall theme ‘Business and Science: Leading the Way to Sustainable Energy.' The discussions provided an opportunity to explore the role of energy in countries' implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 (affordable and clean energy), 13 (climate action) and 11 (sustainable cities and communities). Local Authorities Exchange Views on 'New Urban Agenda' Draft

17 May 2016: Local and regional government authorities exchanged views with UN Member States and observers on the zero draft of the 'New Urban Agenda,' the outcome document of the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III). Habitat III Secretary-General Joan Clos highlighted that the meeting represented the first time a dedicated platform has been made available for mayors and local leaders to directly address member states in an intergovernmental negotiations process.
