CITES CoP17 Reaches Consensus on Most Agenda Items

4 October 2016: The 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP17) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) discussed issues including whether to reject trade in white rhino horn, the transfer of the African grey parrot to Appendix I (no trade), and the uplisting of all pangolin species to Appendix I (no trade). Proposals to downlist and uplist populations of African elephants were defeated along with efforts to open the ivory trade. In addition, the first dedicated decision on fighting wildlife cybercrime as well as a resolution to combat corruption were agreed. More.

POPRC-12 Recommends SCCPs, c-decaBDE for Stockholm Convention Listing

23 September 2016: The 12th meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC-12) of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants adopted decisions recommending that the Conference of the Parties (COP) take a decision to eliminate short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) and decabromodiphenyl ether (commercial mixture, c-decaBDE) under the Convention, and adopted risk profiles on two other chemicals. CCAC WG Discusses Agenda, Communiqué for HLA on Short-Lived Climate Pollutants

22 September 2016: The 18th Working Group (WG) meeting of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) convened to, inter alia, prepare for the High-Level Assembly (HLA) that will meet on the sidelines of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UNFCCC in Marrakesh, Morocco, in November 2016. Participants discussed the draft agenda for the HLA and possible elements for a draft communiqué, both of which will be revised and updated in advance of the HLA. More.

Rotterdam CRC-12 Approves Guidance on Carbofuran, Carbosulfan

16 September 2016: The 12th meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC-12) to the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade adopted decisions on draft guidance documents (DGDs) for two chemicals, a notification of final regulatory action on another, and the proposal for a new Rotterdam Convention listing of a severely hazardous pesticide formulation (SHPF).
