Bonn Climate Change Conference Discusses Paris Agreement Rulebook

18 May 2017: Much of the work during the Bonn Climate Change Conference, which convened from 8-18 May 2017, in Bonn, Germany, was devoted to advancing efforts to operationalize the Paris Agreement on climate change. This work proceeded in incremental steps, leaving considerable work for the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November 2017. More.

ICP-18 Discusses Effects of Climate Change on Oceans

19 May 2017: The 18th meeting of the UN Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea considered the theme, 'The effects of climate change on oceans.' Among other items, the Co-Chairs' summary of discussions notes that countries provided updates on their national contributions and plans for addressing climate change and underscored the continued vulnerability of SIDS, land-locked developing countries, LDCs, low-lying coastal countries, and coastal African States. Second STI Forum Showcases Youth Innovators

16 May 2017: The second annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for the SDGs featured a series of 90-second innovation pitches for solutions addressing each of the six focal Goals: SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), and SDG 14 (life below water). UNFF 12 Highlights Means of Implementation and Links to SDGs

5 May 2017: The twelfth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF 12) convened four days after the UN General Assembly adopted the first-ever UN Strategic Plan for Forests (UNSPF), a strategic UN-system-wide plan for forests, a significant part of which includes linkages to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UNSPF and its corresponding quadrennial programme of work for 2017-2020 provided the basis for UNFF 12’s discussions. More.


Chemicals Triple-COP Advances Synergies, Plans Intersessional Work

5 May 2017: While consensus on compliance and other long-standing issues continued to elude governments at the third joint and back-to-back meetings of the Conferences of the Parties (COPs) to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, the COPs did result in agreement on over 60 decisions. Delegates also agreed to convene the next round of chemicals and wastes COPs jointly and back-to-back in 2019. More.
