UN Ocean Conference Concludes with Call For Action and 1,300 Commitments

June 2017: The UN Ocean Conference concluded with a 14-point 'Call for Action' to conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. Focused on efforts to achieve targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 on life below water, it garnered 1,328 voluntary commitments towards ocean conservation and raised awareness at the highest political level about the importance of the ocean to human survival. Circular Economy Forum Discusses Links with 2030 Agenda

GEF Council Approves 2018 Budget, 30 Project Concepts

May 2017: At its 52nd meeting, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council adopted, inter alia: the budget for fiscal year 2018 of US$35.157 million; US$20,790 administrative budget for the Nagoya Protocol Implementation Fund (NPIF); and US$930,270 budget for the Capacity-building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) established under the Paris Agreement.
