UN-Water Meeting Discusses SDG 6 Monitoring, Planning for HLPF 2018

August 2017: The 27th UN-Water Meeting considered agenda items including an update on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, related intergovernmental processes, and integrated monitoring and reporting related to SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation). Participants highlighted that the July 2018 meeting of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will focus on SDG 6 and noted that UN-Water’s preparation of the SDG 6 Synthesis Report as a contribution to the HLPF discussion provides an opportunity to provide decision makers with an overview on the status of water and sanitation issues and to offer policy recommendations on how to accelerate SDG 6 implementation. ISA Participants Welcome Draft Regulations on Exploitation of Marine Materials

August 2017: The 23rd annual session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) discussed the final report on the first periodic review of the ISA pursuant to Article 154 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), among other items. The ISA Council discussed draft regulations on the exploitation of marine minerals in the international seabed Area. More.

CITES Scientific Committees Adopt Recommendations

July 2017: The 29th meeting of the Animals Committee (AC29) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was followed by a Joint Meeting of the AC and Plants Committee (PC) and the 23rd meeting of the Plants Committee (PC23). AC29 piloted a new process for a review of trade in animal specimens reported as produced in captivity and adopted recommendations on, among other things, sharks, snakes, freshwater stingrays, sturgeons and paddlefish, and nomenclature. The Joint Meeting considered collaboration with the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services among other agenda items. PC23 adopted recommendations on, inter alia: rosewood timber species; timber identification; Malagasy ebonies, palisanders and rosewoods; and cooperation with the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
