Minamata COP1 Considers Compliance, Secretariat Arrangements, Financial Mechanism

29 September 2017: The first Conference of the Parties (COP1) to the Minamata Convention on Mercury considered issues including matters related to reporting, effectiveness evaluation, the financial mechanism, arrangements for a permanent secretariat, compliance and guidance, and guidelines related to technical aspects of the Convention. Delegates took decisions on the compliance committee, guidance to the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and interim arrangements for the secretariat, which will be located in Geneva until a review of arrangements at COP2. A decision on the Memorandum of Understanding with the GEF was postponed until COP2. More.

CCAC Prepares Communiqué for High-Level Assembly at COP 23

26 September 2017: The 21st meeting of the Climate & Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) Working Group, which convened at the end of September, aimed to: prepare for the CCAC High Level Assembly, which will take place on the margins of the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); focus on the CCAC objective of leveraging finance at scale; consider the draft CCAC finance strategy; discuss the proposed Pathway Approach for short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) to achieve sustainable development and limit temperature rise to under 2° C; and assess progress on metrics as a follow-up to the April 2017 Working Group. More.
